Helan Gär was designed for the Hospitality focused studio in Fall 2018. As someone who worked in the restaurant industry for more than 10 years, I always thought I would open my own restaurant and this studio gave me that opportunity. I took inspiration from my favorite family tradition - our annual Christmas Smörgåsbord - for the final design of a Scandinavian restaurant.
Helan Gär - “bottoms up” for those that don’t speak Swedish - is founded on the Scandinavian ritual of fika. Fika is about taking time out of your day to reconnect with friends over coffee, or at Helan Gär, a cocktail or two. Inspired by the classic Danish design aesthetic - minimal and linear, yet graceful and natural - Helan Gär is a warm and inviting space to gather with friends and loved ones. Natural oak, greenery, and warm textures balance the geometric furniture and space partitions. Helan Gär welcomes you to relax an reconnect.

Inspiration was taken from traditional elements of Scandinavian culture, such as the painted dala horses and of course Swedish meatballs! The natural elegance of Ingrid Bergman contrasts beautifully with the rigid lines often seen in Scandinavian design.
